Witch's Brew Halloween Nail Art Design

Halloween is nearly here and one of the more original designs that I've made for the season is my witch's brew tutorial, a gruesome but kinda cute potion of glitter, spiders and eyeballs that's pretty simple to create.

I did this when my nails were really short, so it works for all lengths of nail. Take a look in the video tutorial below!

Easy Halloween Pumpkin Water Marble Nail Art on Short Nails

As Halloween is nearly here I thought I'd highlight my previous halloween nail art tutorials from the archives, starting with a water marble!

Halloween Nails, Pumpkin Water Marble on Short Nails

Don't be daunted, it's a very simple water marble that only takes a few drops of polish, finished off with an easy, evil pumpkin face.  My favourite Halloween movie is The Nightmare Before Christmas and I tried to evoke the curled hillside that Jack stands on with the curl in the water marble.  I think I nailed it on my index finger!  Fail on the other 2 tho lol.

China Glaze is always my go to water marble brand, and I used 2 of their polishes in this design. Papaya Punch, and Midnight Kiss, along with Wet n Wild Black Creme.

Learn how to create the look in the video HERE, or below!

Happy Halloween!

Vintage Vampire, Abstract Cobweb and Frankenstein's Monster Halloween Nail Art!

It's nearly October and you know what that means!  Yep!  Trying to invent some kind of halloween nail art that no one has ever done before.  Great.

I think that's pretty much impossible, for me anyways, so instead I did my versions of vampire, zombie/frankenstein and spider nails.  They range from easy to advanced in skill level and showcase different nail shapes too as I've been enjoying almond shaped nails recently.

Illamasqua Melange - Swatch and Review

It's a long time since I've done a swatch post here on my blog so when Illamasqua sent me their latest from the new 'Once' collection I couldn't resist sharing with you.
Once is a vintage inspired collection with a 'modern vital spirit' and includes a beautiful jade green polish named Melange.

Jade Green Foiled Nail Polish by Illamasqua, Melange

I would describe it as a dusky jade green filled with foiled flecks of gold and copper that shine like embers in the sunlight.

Melange applies in 2 easy coats, and all the photos are without topcoat. You can find the collection at Illamasqua.com (they have free UK shipping).

The '3 designs in 1' videos I started making a few months back have been really well received so I thought I'd try another filled with designs made with only a dotting tool.

A monochrome gradient, a dotted ombre, and simple dotted lace make up 3 easy designs that even a beginner can have a go at.

Steampunk Nail Art! Vintage Cogs, Gears and Chains

Steampunk nails have been on my to-do list for a very long time, it's only now that I was able to come up with a design I was happy with. Sadly it was SUPER hard to capture in a photo, after 70-80 shots I gave up trying to find one that truly conveyed the final design, so to see an accurate portrayal watch the close up shot at the end of the video :)

Here are a couple of not so great photos -

Gay Pride Nail Art

Another design from the archives that I've yet to blog about....I thought it would be a cool idea to create a design celebrating Gay Pride.  Whether you're gay or a straight person wanting to show their support, these nails encapsulate that message really well.
The rainbow stripes of the Gay Pride flag stretch across the nails with a charm in the middle.  You could paint the female symbol, male symbol, both, or a heart...it's up to you :)

Rainbow Gay Pride Nails

Don't worry if you're not able to paint the images on both hands, you can simply paint your dominant hand with a different rainbow colour on each nail to match!

3 Quick & Easy Matte Nail Art Ideas

Who else has a bottle of unloved matte topcoat in their collection?

I've been trying to think of nail art ideas to use it with for literally years lol, but I finally came up with 3 simple and quick designs using either matte topcoat or polish.

Matte Nail Art Designs

The top design is very easy and can be changed up depending on the colours to represent lots of different ideas like giraffe print, pebbles, scales or even a dragon's egg!
The second includes showing your naked nail as part of the design, and mattifies shimmery polish which is an effect I love the look of!
The bottom look uses striping tape to make stripes and would be a cool alternative for the 4th of July.

Check them out HERE or in the video below...

Create Easy Feather Nail Art With A Toothpick!

Sometimes when I've got 'nail art block'  (writers block - nail art block...get it?) I sit down with some acrylic paint and some tools and start creating random shapes until I see a pattern emerging.  I've created a few designs that way over the years, and this time as I was trying to make a palm tree leaf type thing, I realised the shape I was making could be turned in to a feather...and this video was born.
I love it when that happens :)

Feather nail art by ArcadiaNailArtThis design is very easy, great for beginners, and you only need a toothpick.  I'd recommend using acrylic paints as you can easily wipe them away and start again if you mess up.  I used some by FolkArt.

Contemporary Flowers in a Garden Nail Art

My latest video was inspired by some kitchen roll of all things!   It's by Plenty and has a whimsical flower design on it.  I thought it was cute and was inspired to try it out myself with a couple of changes, and I really like the modern, spring look.

I used acrylic paints, a striper brush, dotting tool and detail brush.

3 Striping Tape Nail Art Designs

I've been playing around with striping tape for my latest video, making 3 designs using a cheap set I bought from Ebay.

Chic Office Friendly Striping Tape Nails

2 designs have accent nails to reduce the amount of 'tape placing' you've gotta do, and the final one is a smart look with rhinestones.

Elegant Dark Striping Tape Nails, ArcadiaNailArt

It's fiddly stuff but the crisp geometric lines it creates are awesome!

Piglet Nail Art

My second ever video on my nail art channel was a Winnie the Pooh collaboration with IHaveACupcake and ProfessionalDQ.  While they created Eeyore and Winnie, I made Piglet nails which filled me with dread as faces are not my strong point!

I ended up being quite proud of the end result, you can see how it all came together in the video HERE or click below.

Quick Yellow Feather & Flakies Nails

Every springtime I get the urge to wear yellow polish, bright and cheerful and whocaresifitdoesn'tsuitmyskintoneI'mwearingitanyway  xD

I bought Barry M's Lemon Ice Cream a couple of years ago and I love the shade, it's not too chalky and is easier to wear than a lot of yellows.  However it isn't opaque enough, it takes 5 coats on it's own so I thought I'd try wearing it over a failed yellow from my collection, China Glaze Lemon Fizz.

Yellow Polish Nails Feathers Stickers BornPrettyStore

Lemon Fizz doesn't suit my skin as much and is streaky, but it's more opaque than the Barry M...so I tried 2 coats of Lemon Fizz with 1 coat of Barry M over the top and it was okay but still a little patchy :(

It looks like next time I'll just have to try either 2 coats of Lemon Fizz then 2 of LIC, or lump it and go with the 5 coats of Barry M...so to cover the slight patchiness I decided to add a little art.

Yellow Polish Nails Feathers Stickers BornPrettyStore

First off, some BornPrettyStore feather water decals that go really nicely with the yellow, then a layer of flakie polish from the same store (I bought both myself, this weren't provided for review).

Flakies are a hard to find but much loved effect for me so I'm in love with this polish, it's called Sweet Color Number 1 and is a multi coloured flaky, not just a red/green that other brands have made.

I ended up loving this manicure, bright and fresh and perfect for the season...if only it hadn't rained the entire time I wore it :(

See ya next time

Textured Shattered Stars Collection by Illamasqua

It's good to be doing another swatch video again, I really enjoy showing you guys some beautiful polishes!

Illamasqua Nail Varnish, Marquise, Fire Rose and Trilliant

The Shattered Stars collection by Illamasqua is the subject of my latest video, a trio of textured polishes by my favourite high end brand that don't disappoint.

They cover well in 2 coats, dry quickly, and of course you've got the fab Illamasqua brush which makes it easy to shape a nice curve at the cuticles (for me anyway).

Trilliant is a chic taupe that's very flattering.

Marquise is a vibrant orange jelly with fine glitter and is almost neon.

3 Textured Polish Nail Art Ideas

Two posts in two days?   Blimey.

I've been wondering for a while now how I can create nail art with textured polishes.  I was trying to do something complicated and fancy-schmancy but then I realised that simple was probably the way to go.  Seeing how a super easy design isn't really worth a video, I decided to do 3 of them and combine them in to one tutorial.

Textured Polish Pink Gradient Easy Nail Art

Water marbelling, a gradient and a geometric design, I hope they inspire you!

Textured Polish Simple Nail Art Tiffany Case OPI

I used the OPI Bond Girls collection for the looks cause they're currently the only textures I have, but of course all textured polishes will work for the gradient and the triangle, however you'll have to experiment for the water marble (what's new?)

OPI Pussy Galore - A Perfect Pink for Pale Skin

Hello again :) I have super pale skin and have found it hard over the years to find a light pink polish that actually suits my skin tone.  I purchased the OPI Bond Girls collection a while back and one of the set that I was least excited about was Pussy Galore - a pale slightly frosty pink, with small pink glitter scattered through it.  Well, I was wrong lol.  It's SUCH a good pink for my skin colour, it suits me really well and looks pretty, delicate and creates a well groomed/chic look.

OPI Liquid Sand Pink Pussy Galore Review
Outside

I thought the slight frosty-ness would bug me but it hardly shows up at all and makes the polish glow.

Also, it's now risen to the top of my 'Vacation Polishes' list for a few reasons -

1. I won't have to take topcoat with me because you don't topcoat OPI Sand polishes.
2. The polish is so pale it doesn't show up on my skin too much if I apply it badly so I won't need to take a clean up brush with me.
3. Tip wear is hard to see, the white of my nail blends with the polish so that close up it's hard to see any chips.  This will let me get an extra day or two wear time without me getting all O.C.D. about chipping lol.

Indoors by the window

So in short, I'm loving it.  Yep, I'm loving me some Pussy Galore (yes I did just write that on the internet hehe) and seeing how I currently only own a mini version, I might just be doing something I rarely ever do.  Buy a full sized back-up.  Now that is an honour OPI, hardly. ever. happens.  ;D

Easy Watercolour Nails

Hiya folks, long time no see!

Even tho I took a Youtube break I've still been reading nail polish blogs everyday.  I saw ThePolishaholic do a watercolour manicure using the new OPI Sheer Tints collection.  I loved it but couldn't justify buying a whole set of polishes (sad face) so I thought I'd try DIY-ing it with regular colours from my stash, and the overall look was really pretty!

Watercolour Nail Art OPI Sheer Tints DIY

It's nowhere near as messy as many versions of this look, no sponging or water marbelling, just a nail polish brush!

Find out how to create them in my new video HERE.
